The Rayograph

Design/Play

Oh me, oh my!

The New Museum in New York City is currently hosting an interactive exhibit entitled “Carsten Höller: Experience.” Through January 15, 2012, visitors can – after signing a two-page waiver, that is – participate in the full “Experience.” And what is this “Experience,” you ask? Well, to start, you can slide down a 102-foot-long transparent slide through several floors of the museum. Afterwards, why not take a dip (float?) in the “Psycho Tank,” a sensory deprivation tank. There’s also an aquarium that you can lie beneath on a squishy water pillow! You know, for when you’ve worn yourself out after all that sliding, then walking up stairs, sliding, then walking up stairs…

As Gothamist’s Garth Johnston put it, “Suddenly getting dragged to the museum seems more like dropping acid and reliving your childhood than a chance to better yourself.” Take that as you will.
