Returning to Photograph Her Homeland

After studying at the International School of Moscow, Evgenia Arbugaeva returned to Tiksi, the remote town on the Siberian coast where she had been born. As Arbugaeva explains, Tiksi had once been an important military and scientific base, but that all changed with the collapse of the USSR and the resulting move many families made to distant, larger cities. Motivated by her memories of her birthplace and early childhood there, Arbugaeva returned to capture its present in photographs.
