Russian scientist and underwater photographer Alexander Semenov studied zoology at Moscow State University, specializing in the study of invertebrates, with a particular interest in squid brains. Now how many people can say that, really? Another conversation starter – the remarkable images captured by the White Sea Biological Station’s diving team chief.

Now I’ll admit to being a little weirded out by jellyfish – but only when they’re so close as to make me worry I’ll suck one up my snorkel. That said, these are extraordinary creatures – or, rather, collections of creatures, if I’m not mistaken – and they come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors to amaze.
