Readymades: Tree Rings by Straight Line Designs

[Note: ‘Readymades’ is a new ongoing series that will shine a spotlight on selected functional, yet unusual, unique design objects.]

Judson Beaumont of Vancouver-based creative workshop Straight Line Designs dreamt up these delightful ‘Tree Rings’ which debuted last year at Duthie Gallery. One part practical and the other part just plain nice to look at, these funky fresh tree rings light the way to a fun time, functioning as either small tables or stools or simply unique lighting. The Emily Carr University of Art and Design-trained crafter created these pieces using beetle pine, Plexiglas, and embedded fluorescent lights. I think these would be a great addition to a funky loft space or an interesting outdoor garden.
