The Rayograph

Interpretive Photographs of Winter by Paula McCartney

Minneapolis-based photographer Paula McCartney‘s “A Field Guide to Snow and Ice” presents a mix of true snow and ice with other materials such as wildflowers and gypsum sand that have forms not unlike those of the former. The mimicry is so close that it is often difficult to distinguish what object is really being viewed. More than once whilst looking through this series, I had to ask myself if I was admiring a close-up snapshot of a snowflake or a black-and-white photograph of a flower, for example. See for yourself – take a close look at some of her fine photographs here, and be sure to check out the rest of the series at her site.
