Readymades: Bacterioptica Chandelier by MADLAB

In a move that stays true to several of the design studio’s slogans (…including “Experiment, deliberately.”), the mad scientists at MADLAB have designed a chandelier made up of 15,000 feet of fiber optic cable as well as a number of petri dishes. Owners can grow their own cultures, and, depending on what grows, they can watch the quality of the light change in little ways. While this is certainly not something I’d want hanging over my dinner table, the concept is so ‘out there’ that it is worth mentioning. Here, take a closer look at this living, growing light sculpture, then let me know what you think about it.
